Operating a food bank is a selfless yet challenging responsibility. The work is laborious. Food and fuel costs are expensive. Staffing, storage space, and budgets are limited. Emergencies happen.
With decades of expertise, our team of food banking experts built CalFoods Logistics in 2020 to reduce strain for our peers in Northern and Southern California.
We are a 501(c)(3) that exists so food banks and other nonprofits can spend less time procuring and more time distributing healthy food boxes to vulnerable individuals and families in cities and rural areas.
In partnership with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and our trusted vendors, we help obtain USDA food commodities, including nutritious fresh produce, shelf-stable products, and other critical supplies.
When you need supplemental or emergency aid, we're the ones you call to guarantee you get what you need when you need it.
In the fight against hunger, CalFoods Logistics serves as the state’s appointed intermediary to connect food banks with government food assistance programs. We also support nonprofits that need help getting supplemental food and equipment.
Picture a food bank or other organizations bustling with activity, not driven by panic, as they serve food insecure people. We eliminate any uncertainty about the procurement process so you'll always know when the next pallet of food will arrive.
A steady inventory minimizes the need to ration food so that enough nutrition can be sorted, boxed, and distributed to children, adults, and seniors coping with food insecurity.
With new equipment and updated systems, dedicated volunteers and staff can work in safe and fully functioning warehouses to amplify efforts and serve more people.
At this time, nine indigenous nations have access to kitted food boxes to support their community. Five of these — the Hoopa Valley Tribe, Tolowa Dee-ni Nation, Cahuilla Band of Indians, Yurok Tribe, and Wilton Rancheria — also have infrastructures supported by state-funded items, such as a 20 ft refrigerated container, 20 ft office container, generator, and complete solar power system.
